The salvation army was found by William booth and Catherine booth in 1865, William accepted an invitation to conduct evangelistic in the east end of London. The terrible conditions experienced by the workers, inspired William and Catherine to focus on the poor people. This was called the submerged tenth society. The focused on helping people with mental or physical problems. They also helped lots of hungry children



So then how did the salvation army come to new Zealand?

In 1878 they decided to go world wide, and in 1880's they sent two The two officers, Captain George Pollard and Lieutenant Edward Wright, brought three Australian Salvationists. Between them they established The Salvation Army in New Zealand. 

In a small period of time the salivation army had opened 21 places all around New Zealand and became a big part of this country.
